Do You Want To Learn Piano?
Natasha's Piano Studio in the Inner Western Suburbs of Sydney offers professional piano lessons by Natalie Bossi with 30+ years teaching children and adults.
Natalie loves passing on her knowledge and experience to students, both very young, in between and also has the pleasure of teaching many adult students, some who are starting as complete beginners, with great enthusiasm, saying they had always dreamed of being able to play the piano. Other adult students, who studied the piano as children but had not continued and now regret it greatly.
It is beginning to become more and more popular with adult students, ranging from University students, various professionals, and also people who have retired.
In each age bracket, there is something very special, which I enjoy thoroughly. The best thing of all, is to watch the progress of all of my students, and to see the excitement it brings to them, to achieve such success in their studies.
What Is Unique With Natalie's Piano Lessons In Sydney?
Natalie teaches piano with a balance between the necessary discipline and commitment to practice and an atmosphere of understanding, encouragement and support.
I love to get to know each student, to understand each one individually and to enjoy communicating with them, finding out about their school or work activities and commitments, to listen to any problems they may have and to try to be a support to them in every way. I tell them stories about myself and my experiences in my music world. We are teacher and student at all times, that boundary is always understood, but we are also happy to see each other, to feel comfortable in the lesson, to have a laugh and to always feel free to ask any question and as many of them as is necessary.
Natalie does not believe in using intimidation in her piano teaching methods. Sadly, there are those who do. Natalie has seen the result of this kind of treatment of young people, who have come to her from those teachers. They usually have developed a hatred and fear of piano lessons. Any interest or love of music they may have once had, has been destroyed and their parents are desperate for them to continue, but do not know how to get them to be interested again. They do not want to learn piano anymore.
They bring their children to Natalie and explain the situation.
So those students who come from these kinds of teachers, have been quite a challenge, Natalie has felt empathetic towards them as it was not their fault.
Natalie has managed to turn them around.
The music we teach is something beautiful to be loved forever.
This is something Natalie impresses on her students.
Whenever I see that a student is not doing their homework or not practicing I ask them why. I talk to them about it, making it clear that whatever homework they have been given must be completed and all instructions must be followed. I will express disappointment if this has become an ongoing thing and will persist in rectifying this problem. But never, do I allow anger or aggression enter my lesson. This produces a very negative response..
So those who have come from these kinds of teachers have been quite a challenge. Natalie has felt empathetic towards them as it was not their fault but the fault of a teacher who clearly should not be teaching music.
Natalie has managed to turn most of these students around. It is even more satisfying to see them shine again with the musical ability they always had but lost being treated in an inappropriate way.
WELCOME TO MY MUSIC ROOM
Natalie works (with some exceptions) from her own home music room to teach piano. This is good for the student, as everything required for the piano lessons is there. She has a good piano, many books of music and theory for music exams.
There is a strong musical theme in the way the music room is decorated.
When you walk in everything is all about music. There are larger things which have a musical theme, even the couch and a large wall hanging of an artistic piece depicting musical notes on the lines curving upwards.
There are small things like a musically themed calculator, a clock with a musical theme and a telephone which is in the form of a grand piano.
This Fun Creates A Feeling Of Being In A ‘World Of Music’
I believe strongly in getting to know each student and for them to get to know me. For them to both respect me as a teacher and therefore complete the work I set for them, and at the same time, never be afraid to ask questions, even the same question over and over again is something I encourage.
Natalie makes students feel comfortable with her, to feel cared about and apart from teaching them to play the piano, to pass on the immense love of music she has and help them discover just what a gift it is to have music.
Communication is open, relaxed and there is a strong sense of respect between student and piano teacher.
WHAT IS THE A.M.E.B.?
This stands for Australian Music Examinations Board.
It is the official national body which governs and provides the programme of examinations in music, providing graded assessments of the achievement of music students.
It officially began in 1918. Therefore, in 2018, the AMEB celebrated its Centenary, a hundred years of leadership and commitment to music.
So we often see the reference to AMEB, and so this is what this is.
